Zoom Meeting New Security Features Update to Prevent Zoombombing, Thousands Saved Videos Reportedly Leak Online

These app are allows a large number of the people to conduct a video conference, which is why it become a popular choice of the among businesses, politicians, & even educational institutions. Now the new report suggests that recorded videos on Zoom may have been leak online revealing personal information & private conversations.The rise in these video calls, hacking & pranking cases are also seen a spike. The word is called ‘Zoombombing’ has also been coined for those who invade private & public calls without consent. In rise in Zoombombing has forced federal prosecutors to take legal action against these pranksters. These lapses, Zoom are introduce new security & privacy measures to prevent Zoombombing and leaking of recorded videos.

The Zoom meeting app are announced the starting Sunday, April 5, it are enable the Waiting Room feature & two meeting password setting for all the Basic & Pro users. It are enabled two password settings by default one that requires a password for Personal Meeting ID (PMI) and one are require a password for meetings which have already been scheduled. This means that if you sent a meeting invitation before this password setting was enabled, you will need to send it out again or send the invitees the password to join. It new settings are enabled to prevent unwanted participations from joining in.

The Zoom app notes, For scheduled meetings, In the meeting password will be in the invitation. For instant meetings, the password will be displayed in the Zoom Client. In the password are also included in the meeting join URL.’ They mentioned, there also the new virtual Waiting Room feature that will ask the host and approve joining of every member, even after the password authentication is completed. Admin are approve to joining of each participant individually or accept all participants at once. This feature is enabled by default moving forward, & users will have to disable it manually if they don’t wish to use it. Thid idea is to add another level of security for preventing unnecessary hacks.

In the such cases of Zoombombing rise, the US Department of Justice for the Eastern District of Michigan has issued a warning that all hackers can be charged with state or federal crimes. Charges may include disrupting a public meeting, computer intrusion, using a computer to commit a crime, hate crimes, fraud, or transmitting threatening communications. These charges are punishable by fines & imprisonment.

In the department are issued some best practices for users as well. It includes not making meetings & classrooms public, not sharing link to a teleconference or classroom on an unrestricted publicly available social media post, but instead provide the link directly to specific people. In the department are also advices keeping the screensharing options to Host Only.

In the report in The Washington Post also seems to suggest that thousands of personal Zoom videos are available online openly. They are exposed videos include one-on-one therapy sessions; a training orientation for workers doing telehealth calls, & even small-business meetings it included private company financial statements. It report states that some of these videos appear to have been recorded through Zoom’s software & saved onto separate online storage space without a password.
